March 2012 Round up

Knowledge & Networking News

Dear Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to update you as the Chairman of a fresh AIME Board as we unveil an ambitious set of objectives for the forthcoming year. Your Trade Association has made significant progress in re-positioning over the past 12 months and I am delighted with the progress.  I keep saying it, but if we work together as an industry we will do so much better than being fragmented.  We welcome two new board members to strengthen an already strong board which is committed, able and effective.

I was delighted with the turnout for the GM last week and thanks to those who gave up their time.  We heard an interesting presentation from Patrick Guthrie and David Oatway of PhonepaPlus on the state of the market and there was some good feedback and interaction from members.

A comparison of recent PhonepayPlus industry research with data held on previous years has highlighted two key points; micropayment use outside of PRS is growing and within the PRS sector consumers are happy to engage with content that interests them, with growth in the areas of virtual gifts (135%), non phone content (231%) and charity donations (810%).

Key to market growth is attracting a greater number of merchants to the association. AIME has reviewed its fee structure with this goal in mind; opening up access to forums to the Associate level and implementing revenue banding to put AIME membership within the grasp of smaller companies. This fresh blood will help invigorate the market and improve networking opportunities amongst members. I am pleased that the majority of members are supportive of the new levels.

AIME has now restructured operationally around the Future Media Group. Research led, the FMG will drive forward the micropayment market through industry data, whitepapers and guidance, drilling down into the trends that underpin the growth areas.

We have also now launched a new group to engage with the Apps Developer community. The group will have its next meeting on the 19th April, with a presentation from new members MACH, who I am pleased to welcome to the association.

Finally, we launched our new AIME blog last week, The Exchange, and I am hoping to see lots of interaction and input on this.

I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all a Happy Easter break and to thank you all for your continued support.

Yours faithfully,
Bod

Payforit 4 - coming to a payment screen near you

Within AIME we all know that Payforit is gaining more and more traction as a mobile payments service. It is already being used by a wide variety of companies, from rail operators selling on-board wifi, to online banks taking their initial deposit by mobile, and is growing as a method of payment.

However, the Payforit community, and in particular the AIME Payforit Working Group, has not been resting on its laurels when it comes to the product. As part of the on-going improvements and development of the service, Payforit Version 4 will be launching on May 15th.

The changes are all designed to improve retailer and consumer take up of Payforit – further increasing Payforit revenues – but they are also part of the growing and maturing of the service. While some of the changes will be mandatory in due course, the overall ethos is one of creating a framework, the new version of Payforit, Payforit 4, is designed to be a handbook rather than a rulebook.

Payforit 4 has moved things on significantly, especially in terms of user experience, and it allows you to develop and adapt it to suit the needs of your customers. Here are some of the aspects of Payforit 4 that we are most excited about.
